- Congregational Council: Made up of 12 representative
members of the congregation who give overall direction and general management
to the congregation and staff, who implement the mission. The
purpose of the Congregational Council is to facilitate congregational
decision-making and thereby strengthen, unify and enrich our life together.
This executive body of the congregation considers both short-term and
long-term issues which affect the life and mission of the congregation.
- Hospitality Committee: Provides hospitality at church events
which is done by many members of the church, as well as 7-8 members
who make up the Hospitality Committee. The chairperson and vice-chairperson
each serve for two years and the other members serve for one-three years.
- Congregational Life Committee: Is an extension of the care
giving provided by the Pastoral Team. The committee promotes existing
efforts and develops new efforts that enhances and enriches the relational
life of the congregation.
- Arts & Symbols Committee: Coordinate planning for art and religious
symbols for Akron Mennonite Church.
- Music Committee: The music ministry of Akron Mennonite Church
will express and nurture the song and rhythm of the people. In this
respect music ministry is pastoral; it relates to the needs, hopes,
and aspiration of the people. Our music forms community as it did for
the peoples of Scripture, Old and New, "O come let us sing to the Lord…making
melody in our hearts to the Lord." We confess and celebrate the faith
in our singing and playing as well as in our Confession of Faith. This
ministry is informed by and contributes to the mission of the church.
"All our ministries are offered to the congregation and others as invitation
to faith and service."
- Stewardship Committee: We recognize that all we are and have
is a gift from God and we want to resist the materialistic temptations
of our affluent society. Realizing that both tithing and as the Lord
has prospered are biblical concepts, we believe we owe our Lord at least
one-tenth of our time, energy, and earnings.
- Trustees: Provide for the over-all day-to-day maintenance of
the building and grounds. This includes cleaning of buildings, repairs,
grounds upkeep, snow removal, etc.
- Membership Committee: Work jointly with the Pastor and Pastoral
Team on all matters of membership such as: individuals interested in
becoming members, individuals who request transfer of membership out
of AMC, and unique membership situations.
- Scholarship Committee: Encourage members of the congregation
to contribute funds to the Scholarship Endowment at years' end. Request
and disperse funds to the appropriate colleges for tuition assistance.
- Library Committee: Coordinate library services for the congregation;
providing books and materials as appropriate for the needs of the church.
- Leadership Coordinating Committee: The Church Covenant says,
"Tasks of ministry for each person grow out of gift discernment in the
congregation." The Leadership Coordinating Committee is responsible
to carry out this task, known as the annual leadership selection process.
The committee receives nominations from multiple sources in the congregation
for open position. The committee then recommends persons to fill these
positions and facilitates the invitation process.
- Pastor-Congregation Relations Committee: The primary task of
the Pastor-Congregation Relations Committee is to care for the relationship
between the pastors and the congregation. This committee complements
the relationship between the Congregational Chair and the church pastors.
- Pastoral Team Member Selection Committee: The specific task
of this committee is the nominating of persons from the congregation
to serve as lay members on Pastoral Team.
- Ministry Teams: Groups of people responding to the call of
the Holy Spirit to minister to a need in our church, our community,
or our world. The group is bound by a shared sense of ministry and by
a shared sense of the mission of Akron Mennonite Church.
